ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL..........AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL
I was going to post about something contraversial, politcal perhaps. The Jena 6, Iraq, maybe even about Obama's visit to our fair city last week. Then I caught the last 10 minutes of the Monday Night Football game last night and that's when it hit me. What a FANTASTIC ending. You do not have to be a huge football fan to enjoy the climax that unfolded last night during the game between the Packers / Broncos. Last second field goal to tie the game on Denver's part and then, the finish. Brett Favre, the Favre of old perhaps, heaving the game winning touchdown pass on THE FIRST PLAY FROM SCRIMMAGE IN OVERTIME. That is the stuff of legend, the kind of thing that will only enhance his legacy as one of the greatest clutch performers in the history of the game.
Then, as I'm cruising through things to post about on our fine site, it struck me. Is there anything more American than football? American football is just that, American. And Monday Night Football is trully the epitome of that American icon. It's our game, aside from that version played in Canada. For a history of the MNF phenomanon, go here.

Aside from 60 minutes, it's the longest running show on Television. As men, where would we be without our Monday Night Football. Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, Dan Dierdorf, Al Michaels........who could ever forget these guys. And the players of our youth.......Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Walter Payton, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Lawrence Taylor, Troy Aikman, Emmit Smith......the list goes on and on. It's almost a right of passage, and has been a staple of American society for 30+ years.
American football, and especially Monday Night Football, have become a symbol of America. The spirit of the competition, the thrill of a last second victory. I don't tune in nearly as much as when I was younger, but when I do, it still can provide that one special moment we will remember for a long time. Thank you Brett Favre.......thank you Joe........Thank you Roger.
Monday Night Football.........Trully and Uniquely American.........because it matters.
Thanks.............................CG

CG Wasn't that a great finish last night??????? And Bret's wife is kinda purty too!!!!!!!!!!!
CG you are correct, Football is uniquely American. Time spent watching American sport is a much better experience for our youth than video games and other pointless activities too......The Packers, love 'em or hate 'em. If you watch a Packers game, you not only see a well played sport, and maybe learn about strategy of that sport, but you also learn via example, the benefit of following your dreams, hard work, and perserverance. Guys like Brett Farve in football, or Larry Bird in basketball, show our youth what a little talent, and an extreme amount of hard work, can get you--Not just a career, but the career of your dreams, a long and fufilling career. You can have championships, money, and all the other trappings of a good life if you want it bad enough, work hard enough, and catch a break or two along the way. To earn these rewards, you have to get up and go to work every day, not just when you feel like it. Even if you are hurt. Even if you are sick. And every day you go to work, you must give it the best you have to give on that day. These are things we can learn from a skillfully played ball game. Maybe more people should start paying attention again.
CG,
It has been a pleasure blogging with you...and you are a blessed man for mentioning the great name of Roger Staubach!

That game was a tough 'un for me...and not. I was a Packers fan when I lived in the Midwest (during the Bart Starr/Jim Taylor/Boyd Dowler/Max McGee era); I became a Broncos fan after moving to Colorado in '71. So every time they match up, I can't lose
BTW, I found you via BMW...you're bookmarked, and I'll be bach...(to visit, not the famous decomposer...)
