A Salute and Thank You To Marshall Faulk

Marshall Faulk's great #28 jersey was retired at half time of the St. Louis Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers game tonight. Watching the ceremony brought back some great memories of Marshall's accomplishments and what he meant to St. Louis football and it's road to Super Bowl XXXIV against the Tennesee Titans. Marshall was absolutely spectacular to watch. He had always reminded me of a combination of the smart running of a Walter Payton and the "never give up" toughness of an Earl Campbell. He had an unmatched peripheral vision and could stop and start like no other. Sometimes I could swear he could see out of the ear hole in his helmet...Marshall at times carried the Rams to victory. He could run like no other, he could catch, and yes he could even pass in Mike Martz's "trick" plays.
He was graceful and fast and yet tough as nails and a bonafide workhorse. He was the glue that held the "Greatest Show On Turf" together and a team leader and mentor. Marshall's time in St. Louis was NFL perfection, and a storied stay. We had a national phenomenon in Kurt Warner, a seasoned veteran in Isaac Bruce, and a new up and coming superstar in Tory Holt, then sprinkle in Ricky Proehl and you have greatness. I will never forget the great times and great excitement that the "total package" Marshall Faulk brought to a love of football...
