Serb Protesters Storm U.S. Embassy In Belgrade

Today angry Serbs broke into the U.S. embassy in Belgrade in protest against the acknowledgment of Kosovo's declaration of independence. The Serbs broke into the embassy and set office areas on fire. The embassy had been closed in anticipation of riots and protests. The only occupants of the embassy were security and a small Marine contingent of guards. One charred body was found and apparently, according to reports, it was the body of one of the protesters, all American personel have been accounted for.

Kosovo which the Serbs since mediaval times have been connected to are the minority in Kosovo. The Serbs are primarily Christian and the Albanians, the majority, are primarily Muslim and both have commited attrocities upon each other for generations. Read More History Here... The battle continues to this day..... the anger runs deep and long.
Many in America have mixed feelings on this conflict. Some view the Albanians as soley Muslim and condemn them as suspect given our war on Jihad. Others view it as independence of a majority of people who have the right of independence. It's easy as an American to sympathize with both sides. I as an American and a Christian have the same mixed emotions on this issue. The Albanians have been staunch supporters of America and President Bush. As an American I understand the forward moving idea of a free Democracy of Muslim state. Why? It reflects what can be accomplished and it is an example for Iraq and those that doubt a mix of Democracy and Islam. On the other hand I feel for the Serbs and their plight as the minority Christian population.
America Matters has a reader very close to this situation that lives in a border country of this region. We will have some of her views on this over the next few days...... We may agree or disagree, who knows, but it will make for interesting discussion.

That part of the world has been in conflict for a long time. I remember once refering to a serb as a Polack and if looks could kill.
